The Challenge
Imperial College London hosts the Mary Lister McCammon Summer Research Fellowship a prestigious programme for exceptional women in STEM. The Fellowship offered deep academic immersion. What was needed alongside it was an equally serious investment in the personal and leadership development of participants helping them grow not just as researchers, but as confident, connected and impactful professionals.
What WonderIf Delivered
Susie Edwards designs and delivers the leadership development and personal growth series that runs alongside the Fellowship. The programme offers participants a rare dual experience: deep academic immersion paired with intentional personal and leadership development. Across five interactive, in-person sessions, participants explore:
Building meaningful relationships across disciplines and institutions
Navigating self-doubt — understanding imposter phenomenon and building confidence
Communicating research with clarity— speaking and presenting with impact
Taking ownership of their journey — career thinking, direction and agency
Each session is designed as a practical, reflective and energising experience where ideas are tested, perspectives are stretched, and learning is immediately applied. The programme creates connection between participants that extends well beyond the Fellowship itself.
The Impact
The programme is now in its second year a reflection of its value to Imperial College and to the Fellows themselves. Participants include internationally recognised researchers and awardees such as the 2026 Zonta International Women in STEM Award recipient.
What Participants Said
Thank you so much for your valuable insights and coaching Susie — it was an honour to learn from you!"
