The Challenge

Senior healthcare professionals were working across increasingly complex systems navigating organisational boundaries, workforce pressures, and the demands of leading change at pace. What was needed was not another generic leadership course. It was a structured, collaborative experience that would build the confidence, skills and connections to lead effectively across systems.

What WonderIf Delivered

Susie Edwards designed and delivered The System Leaders Approach a structured, practical, and collaborative virtual leadership programme for senior healthcare professionals. Delivered in five interactive workshops of three hours each, the programme blended theory, lived experience and reflective practice.

The five modules were:

Leading Across — System Leadership in Action
Leading with Care— Compassionate and Inclusive Leadership
Leading for Impact— System Thinking
Leading Together — Distributed Leadership
Leading for Change — The Leadership Qualities that Matter in Inclusive Systems

Each module was designed to stand alone and connect as part of an overall programme experience — meaning organisations could commission individual sessions or the full programme depending on their needs.

The Impact

The first cohort sold out within 48 hours.

Nine cohorts were subsequently delivered to over 320 delegates across three organisations. The success of the programme led directly to new initiatives being created for Senior Leaders in Humber and North Yorkshire, as well as a brand new set of videos and a workbook to accompany another programme for the North East and Yorkshire Leadership Academy.

Participants demonstrated an average 2.5 to 4 point increase in knowledge on a 10-point scale, with participants stating clearly how they would apply their learning: "I will use this in my next meeting", "I know now how to map my system", "I'll apply this in my transformation work."

Action learning sets created after the programme continued to extend the learning beyond the sessions themselves.
